Arrived in the evening and every other place was either booked up or way over priced. The place looked good and we were very hopeful... until we opened the lobby door. WHAM... it hits you right in the face. The overwhelming stench reminiscent of a stale, dirty and overloaded ashtray. My first inclination was to run for the car and go somewhere, anywhere else. My girlfriend said she was tired and since we were only there to sleep and get back on the road, we could maybe get through it. I relented and that's when we got our first surprise. The lady at the counter was very pleasant and room was much more reasonable than anything else we had encountered so far.
Surprise #2 was that the room and the bedding were actually clean and odor free (I was prepared to sleep in my clothes on top of the bed). The smoke alarm was hanging from the ceiling by it's wires, but at that point I didn't care. So after a couple of ibuprofen to relieve my headache from the lobby and hallway stench, we got a pretty good night's sleep.
Surprise #3 was that, in the morning, the stench seemed to have abated a bit. Either that or we were starting to acclimate to it.
Surprise #4 was the continental breakfast. Though I have seen better, it was pretty darn good. We made waffles in the waffle maker and they were as good as anything you've had in any restaurant.
So the surprises mitigated our first reaction somewhat. I mentioned the smell to the gal at the counter in the morning, and I got the impression she'd heard it before and it probably wouldn't change.
Would I stay there again? Only if that stench was gone!!
And - no - I didn't plagiarize Bob Z's review.
All hotels were booked except this one. Got in at Midnight, was tired and just wanted to go to sleep. I do not think our room was cleaned. Woke up to get ready to leave and there were no towels and old pizza crust on the floor . Unless your desperate for a room don't go there!
We arrived here late at night after a long day on the road. The lobby seemed to smell slightly of urine and the carpet was heavily stained. I was already wondering about Plan B when they handed us the keycards for our room.
Fortunately, the situation in the rooms was much better. A bit tattered, but clean and serviceable. No bad smells or carpet stains. The fridge and microwave looked clean, the bathroom and beds were in good shape. Yay! I can crash.
They also include breakfast in the price. I thought, "Oh great, another crappy continental breakfast," but they offer some decent stuff. Decent yogurt. DIY Belgian waffles. Actual sausage and eggs. The sausage is pre-cooked and you have to microwave it. The eggs are hard boiled. But hey, this is way better that the crappy pastry wrapped in cellophane that you get at other budget motels that advertise free breakfast.
